“... in a less volatile time the Lord of the Crossroads might have himself drawn the ire of the priestly caste with plans of “revitalizing” the religious system, but in contrast to the violent radicalism of the other claimants the Lord must have appeared as a veritable saviour of the status quo. In a telling contemporary fable the Lord is portrayed as kind of
“fisher savant”, who catches two monstrous fish, named Nostalgia and Folly, from the murky depths and watches them shrivel and die as they are drawn above the surface.”
